One of those days

I'm having one of those days where I can't trust David in a room alone long enough to go pee. Something gets beaten, broken, jumped onto, jumped off of or smashed everytime I try. One of us is not going to make it through the day alive. It's too early to tell which one of us it will be.

This will be...interesting.

Dave's in bed now so he can get up early for work tomorrow. I have an hour until I put the boys to bed and I'm already losing steam and getting tired. This should be a fun evening. :P Blech. I just want to crash.

Tomorrow should be peachy as well. David is headed to Detriot as soon as he gets out of work. He and a couple of our friends have tickets to the Lions' game. He probably won't be back before I head to bed tomorrow night. He has to work Monday morning as well so I really won't see him again until sometime around noon on Monday. In the meantime, I'll be taking the boys to church, my mom's house for lunch/visiting with family and then a fall party and trick-or-treating. We'll be home right after bedtime. It's going to be a long one.

Our miserable week

It's been quite the week at our house. Last Saturday we went to an Autumn party at David's brother's house. There were loads of little friends for David to play with and endless amounts of grass and mud for Max to eat (he was pooping dirt for 2 days). My babe and I fell flat (literally) when it came to the three-legged race and to be honest, we didn't do much better at the egg toss, but we all had a great time and that's all that matters. :)

On Sunday we dedicated Max at church. Just about everyone in the family was able to attend the service and we all went out to lunch afterwards to celebrate. After lunch, we parted ways and went home to get the boys a much needed nap. They fell asleep on the way home then refused to sleep when we got them in bed here at home. Sometimes I really hate cat naps in the car!! I gave up on the hope of them sleeping anymore and packed them up to go visit my mom. We spent the evening with her then packed things up to come home.

Monday was pretty low-key...which was nice considering what was about to happen. I don't really recall doing much of anything until Bible study at church that night. I really love Bible study. Not only is it awesome to be in the Word, but I really enjoy getting myself dressed up and going out by myself. I got my weekly leg-shave, changed out of my snot stained clothes and brushed my hair. I was feeling particularly fancy this week so I even took the "just in case" back-up diapers out of my purse and unloaded all "mom" items. I was just one of the girls. The meeting was fabulous, as always, so I was in a good mood that night....until I got back home that is. Max was up puking when I pulled in. My poor hubby, who is completely and utterly repulsed by bodily fluids, was covering in regurgitated peas and chicken from dinner. Yes, I laughed a little. I'm sure he threw up a little in his mouth when he lifted that slime covered baby out of the crib. Yes, I'm laughing about it again. Hehe. Anywho, I was home for only 10 minutes and hadn't fully cleaned up the first mess when Max threw up again. Now I had a carpet to add the list to be cleaned. :( Yuck. I finally got his stomach settled for a solid half hour and tried to get him to bed. He passed out right away. I had my fingers crossed that a good night's sleep would knock that stomach bug right out of him, but that was not to be....

Tuesday started of fine with a little sleeping in, but that didn't last long. Max puked yet again within 15 minutes of nursing for the first time. I called the doctor and was told it was just a stomach virus making his tummy extra sensitive. He would throw up everything I gave him unless it was in very small doses. Enter the medicine dropper. I was instructed to feed him 1 teaspoon of expressed breast milk every 10 minutes for a half hour then rest his stomach for 1.5 hours. If he kept it down, start over again with the same routine. Once he reached 3 hours from the last puking time he was cleared to nurse a small amount again. He was off solid foods until he'd lasted 8 hours without puking. To add to the pure suckiness of the day, I was nauseous and ill all day myself. I had body aches, head aches and general yuckiness from the time I woke up to the time I went to bed. Blech.

I woke up Wednesday morning feeling much better. Whatever I had seemed to have passed quickly and honestly, wasn't that bad. It could have been much worse. Max was looking much better too and I foolishly thought we were out of the woods with our illnesses. Not true. I gave little David a jelly sandwich, chips and raisins for lunch. I saw every bit of that again when he hurled it up right in the door way of my bedroom. Over the next 8 hours, David became good friends with our puke bucket and I got tight with my friends, Lysol and Clorox. He was so bad that even the medicine dropper was too much to handle. He finally fell into bed, exhausted, at 8:30 and slept all night with out puking again. It was restless sleep, but at least he wasn't up several times getting sick.

Yesterday, Thursday, was a good day for us. We went all day - sun up to sun down - without puke or poop. No new laundry was created!!! Score! I slipped out for a few hours in the evening to go to our life group at church. It was a nice escape. I had been back home for about an hour when David (the husband) told me his stomach had been upset all night and he was starting to feel sick. Not really what I wanted to hear. He was feeling too nauseous to go to bed so he sat up for a few hours by himself. I drifted off sometime much earlier without him. Max was up at 3:30am to nurse when I heard David's alarm going off. He reluctantly got up and started getting ready for work. He looked just miserable. :( After he told me that he wasn't sure if he could even drive all the way to work before he vomited, I talked him into calling in. You really aren't in any shape to work if you are hugging a puke bucket all day. He sat with me while I finished nursing Max. Not 5 minutes later, the diarrhea began. After 30 minutes and his 4th trip to the bathroom, I gave up and went back to bed by myself. I dozed off and on until the boys woke me up at 8:30 this morning. So far David is still sleeping.

The only good thing about this virus is that it has been passing quickly. Very quickly. The boys and I were all over our battles with it in about 12 hours. Since David's problems started last night, I'm hoping he'll be feeling much better when he wakes up. *fingers crossed*

A journey begins

Today is the day. The day that changes what the next 2 years of our family's life will look like. David's college classes are now in session. We knew it would be coming, but we still can't believe it's here. To be honest, it's bittersweet. We are happy - make that thrilled - that we're back on the road to a degree and better job, but it's not going to be pleasant along the way. David will be busy with approximately 25-30 hours of course work per week along with working his usual 40 hours (3rd shift). He's taking 1 in-seat class on Wednesday evenings that lasts 15 weeks and 2 accelerated online classes that last 7 weeks a piece with a one week break in between. For a wife and kids that are used to being with him nearly 10 hours a day, it's just about heartbreaking. We are going to miss him.

Taking 9 credit hours, having a wife and working full time is hard enough, but this time around he's got 2 noisy babies thrown in the mix too. This house is rarely calm and quiet. We like to play, make noise and have fun and that's good, but it's not exactly prime study conditions. We have a very small place to work with so there's really not a lot of options, but we've managed to set up a study space at the end of our bed in our room. It was crowded as it was, but we needed to make a little place for him to get away. He's got a desk, laptop, folding chair, small file box and a shelf (under the desk) for his books. There's really not much of a walkway anymore, but it does the job. :)

We just keep telling ourselves that this will only last for a season. We are working towards something awesome. We can't get a house until we get a better paying job. We can't get a better paying job until he has a degree. We can't get a degree without finishing his last 40 or so credit hours. He'll be going to school year round with nearly no break until spring 2012, but WE CAN DO THIS!

Right?

Mom's coming...time to clean!

What is it about Mom coming over that inspires the urge to scrub every square inch of my house? Please tell me this happens to you too. I mean, it doesn't have to be perfect and really I don't actually scrub, but I like to create the appearance that I do occasionally mop, ya know? I like for my mom to leave feeling as if she did an ok job teaching me how to run a vacuum and such instead of banging her head on the dashboard all the way home convincing herself she's a failure because I obviously don't know how to run a dishwasher.

Now, you can't be too obvious in your cleaning efforts or she'll catch on. I like to tidy up then let the kids have the run of the house for 10 minutes or so so that it looks lived in. Any longer than 10 minutes and I feel it ruins my work too much and mom will still think I never clean. When she does arrive (which is at least 15 sometimes 30 minutes before the scheduled time because she's that anxious to see the grandkids) you have to act like you've been playing with them all morning instead of cleaning like a mad woman. I like to leave a small stack of puzzles on the coffee table when I tidy up for this reason. During the kids' 10 minutes of destruction and mayhem, every puzzle piece will undoubtedly be removed from the puzzle it belongs to and be thrown haphazardly on the floor. It may hard to watch, but it will play to your advantage later. When she pulls in the drive you can just plop everyone on the floor and act like you've been there for ages putting puzzles together.

Over time, I've realized that Mom likes to help and, being a mom myself, I know that moms live off of being needed so I do strategically leave a sink full of dishes that need to be done so she can feel as if she can help. I like to and go on and on about all that time I've spent with the kids in the morning and how it's left me with no time to do the dishes. It works like a charm every single time. Before I know it, Mom's up to her elbows in soap suds scrubbing away at last night's spaghetti pot. It's a thing of beauty.

I'd like to say that I'm making all this up for the sake of a funny blog, but sadly, it's true. My mother-in-law came over yesterday afternoon to babysit. Here's my actual to-do list from yesterday morning:

Clean poo streaks out of toilet.
Spot clean mystery stain on carpet.
Hide dirty dishes in dishwasher. (but do not run. That's working too hard.)
Clean peanut butter smear off living room window.
Re-assemble bookshelf that lil David took apart.
Put all 137 books back on re-assembled bookshelf.
Vacuum up David's collection of dead bugs by front door.

P.S. I know my mom and mom-in-law are reading this. Hi, Mom.

David's ENT appt

David had another consultation with his ENT specialist today. He needs another surgery. After the surgery he had in January he got a severe infection at the surgery site and it shifted some bone and cartilage that they had just worked on. This upcoming surgery would be to fix that and to remove a small piece of bone that would enlarge his airway and make breathing easier. After he's had a chance to recover from that surgery, he and his surgeon are going to be discussing another surgery - this time on his throat. At today's appt, the surgeon took a good look at his throat and said that he has some excess soft tissue in the back of his throat. It's not the dangly part, but the part that the dangly part is connected to that's too fleshy. It's a simple procedure, but it needs to be done after his nose issues are resolved and he's healed.

Bottom line: David's nose is the worst his surgeon has ever seen (and this is no young pup we're talking about!) and requires several procedures to fully correct.

Beautiful disaster

This week has been one of "those" weeks. You know, the kind of week where nothing goes right and you want to crawl back in bed and sleep til next week. The kind of week where you have to make yourself laugh about your misfortune so you don't cry. Yep. I had one of those. We are all fighting runny noses, sore throats and coughs. And as if that's not enough....

On Sunday, we were driving our van home from visiting our moms when it started overheating. Luckily, we were only 2 miles from home so we were able to make it there and park the car. David called his Dad for advice and they determined it was a bad thermostat that had caused the problems. On Monday, David got home from work and set about fixing it. One trip to AutoZone and a short time later, it was fixed. Later that evening, we were going to go out to eat. About half way there (and at the last business/parking lot before miles of country roads) the van started to make a funny sound. David pulled over and checked under the hood. It turns out we blew a gasket and were spraying antifreeze all over the serpentine belt making it squeal. We had no choice, but to turn and make the 20 minute trip back home. We got about 5 minutes into it and the van started overheating again (because we had lost so much coolant through the spewing gasket). After several attempts to cool the engine down, we determined it would only do damage to drive it any further and we needed a ride home. By now we were sitting in an apartment complex and we were nervous that they would tow us overnight so we tried to drive very quickly to our church's parking lot to park the van to cool down. We couldn't take the main roads because it was now rush hour traffic and very busy (we couldn't let the van idle or it would immediately overheat) so we picked a side street and hoped it would lead us to church. As we stumbled our way through the neighborhood in our overheated van, we passed a familiar road and started singing the Lord's praises for leading us right to our friends' home! The Lord knew that we'd never make it to the church so he lead us down the side streets and right into our friends' driveway. Our engine was now completely out of coolant. Another friend (that lives 15 minutes away, but just happened to be in the neighborhood) came and picked us up and took us to his house for dinner (because remember? we haven't eaten yet and it's an hour and a half past dinner time!). Thank you, Lord for good friends.

Tuesday was spent fixing the van again. David had to make 3 trips to parts stores and one to a junk yard, but in the end he did it. During the fix he broke one of the parts he needed to put the van back together and lost the bolt to the part he bought to replace it. He was very frustrated after 6 hours of working on the dumb thing and was very grateful when it was over. Did I mention it was pouring rain that day? Did I also mention that our other vehicle is making a funny noise and needs to be looked at?

Wednesday was sure to look better after Tuesday's mess. We were having the carpet's cleaned (for FREE courtesy of our apartment complex!!) so we planned to spend the day away from home. I made an appointment for Max to have some professional pictures taken. We were just going to make a day of it. When we pulled into the restaurant to eat lunch, David noticed the engine smoking. We were burning radiator fluid. Ugh. After lunch we switched car seats over to my mom's car and she took us on to the picture appt while David took our van home. He didn't have the energy to look at it so it sat overnight.

I woke up yesterday with double mastitis and I felt like crap. I made David cancel his plans with friends (sorry!) to come home and help with the boys. I went to the doctor in the afternoon and got antibiotics to fight the infection. I had a quick stop to make at a friend's house and I told her all about my horrible week. She quickly summed up the situation and said it sounded like a spiritual attack of some sort. i hadn't thought about it like that so I mentioned it to David at dinner to see what he thought. He agreed and then understanding hit.

You see, a week ago (right about the time we started getting sick) David and I talked and agreed that we needed to be more consistent about praying with David before naps and bedtime. He was having problems calming down enough to sleep at night and would cry for an hour or more to get back up so we hoped praying with him would bring some peace to the situation. As loving parents, we obviously pray over him and for him, but we set about with a purpose to pray with him. We wanted to teach him the words to say and encourage him to pray along with us instead of just listening to us. I have never seen him more excited about something. Upon laying down now, he begs to pray to Jesus. He says the words the best that he can and we guide him through a very basic and simple prayer. It has worked like a charm. We leave the room now and don't hear a peep from him...and he's sleeping longer at night too!

There is nothing that the Evil One hates more than another believer in the Kingdom of God. We really believe that Satan tried every ugly and frustrating trick in the book to wear us down this week. He is not one to sit by quietly and unaffected while new believers are being born! I think our terrible week has proved that much. After our little revelation we understand much better why these things are happening to us this week and you better believe we are meeting the schemes of the Devil with tremendous amounts of prayer. We are coming against this illness with force and claiming healing in Jesus' name. We are praying that our last fix on the van fixed the entire problem and we're praying protection over little David.

And today, I'm happy to say I'm feeling tons better. David looked at the car this morning and it didn't have a problem after all (it's just noisy). He also found no problem with the radiator on the van...turns out that was just spilled radiator fluid burning off of the hot engine and smoke was totally normal. It's sort of fun to look back and see where God had our backs this week. His hand was definitely on us.

His halo is bent and rusty and there's mud on his white robe, but underneath he's still an angel

Ever had one of those moments where you just sit back, zone out and think "I'm doing ok as a parent. He listens so well. We've had our battles, but we're getting through. He's such a well behaved kid." and then you look over just in time you see him clock his best friend in the face? I have.

We tried to be good and awesome friends tonight. We took dinner and dessert to our very pregnant and due-any-day-now friends. Apparently, little David did not get the niceness memo so all we did all evening was yell at him for clobbering their precious little daughter in the face. Nice. Just when I thought we'd gotten a handle on his horrible hitting habit and was feeling pretty good about my ability to discipline him he has to go and pull crap like that. Thanks kid.

Every time we leave home I just pray that he makes us look like good parents while we're gone. I always hold out hope that he can behave and make it through one evening, one dinner or just a few hours without a tantrum or meltdown. But then, when he flips out in the middle of the produce department because I won't let him hold the apples or throws his plate of spaghetti on our friends' brand new carpet, I remember that he's just 21 months old and sometimes that's asking too much of him. And really, I've never seen anyone (especially another parent) gasp in horror at any stunt he's ever pulled as if toddlers never act up or something. Everyone understands right? My kid isn't the only one who does this crap, right? It's only a phase, right?

Ok, good. I feel a teeny bit better. He is a good kid. He is a good kid. He is a good kid....

I'm ready

Soooo....I haven't been on in a while. We've been busy prepping for the new baby, recovering from surgery and trying to keep up with life in general. It's been exhausting, exciting, chaotic and busy...but then when isn't life all of those things? I've been working my tail off to accomplish so many things. I feel like I've done a lot, but then I look around and see a lot more still to do. Oh well. It'll happen. I think if I had to sum up the way I feel in the last week or so into one sentence I would say "I'm ready".

I'm ready for this baby to come. I have prepped the boys' room (and then rearranged twice more). I have all of Max's clothes washed and ready to wear, the carseat is in the van and my bag is packed for the hospital. We have plans made for David to be taken care of when we go to the hospital. Literally, all we are missing is our baby! Come on, Max!

I'm ready to not be pregnant anymore. Yes, it sounds a bit like the first one, but this time I'm talking about me. I am tired of not sleeping at night anymore. I'm sick of peeing every 45 minutes. I can't stand that everything either has a nasty strong smell, upsets my stomach or is craved at 4am. I really don't want to go to anymore prenatal appts. I like my midwife and all, but I can't wait to not see her anymore. I also can't wait for strangers to stop staring at me waddle, giving looks of pity and then saying "You're overdue aren't you?". NO! I have weeks to go still! Shut up! You're not helping! Grr. ...I'm also very tired of being cranky for no apparent reason and snapping at my poor hubby. Pretty sure he could do without that one too. :)

I'm ready for David to feel better and get back on his feet. Not only am I pregnant and nesting and preparing the house for a new baby, but I'm still nursing David back to health as well. He's definitely turning a corner, but it's been a long road and quite frankly I'm a little weary. In the last 5 weeks he's sprained both ankles, gone through surgery on his nose and then fought a nasty infection as a result of surgery. I sort of can't remember when he was up on his feet and feeling strong and healthy. I miss his help more than anything. We have such a great balance of household duties and it's a little overwhelming to do it all myself. *deep breath* We'll be ok.

Saving green by being green..

So about 6 months ago I felt a really strong need to re-evaluate how I was doing things in my house and for my family. I realized that I was making choices day in and day out that were costing us unnecessary money and weren't the healthiest choice for the environment or our family.

By this point, I was already making my own laundry soap, but I decided to step it up a notch and make the rest of our household cleaners too. I started with my bathroom and all-purpose counter top type cleaner first. Once we had some of that down, I made the money saving switch to cloth diapers and wipes for David. We have that whole situation under control now so I recently moved on to making my own dishwasher detergent. It's amazing the money you can save when you try! I also feel better now knowing exactly what is in my cleaning products. There are no excess or harsh chemicals near my child or in the air we breathe. This makes my mommy heart so happy.

As a stay-at-home mom, I am grateful every day for the privilege of being here with my child every moment of the day. My husband makes sacrifices so I don't have to. I feel though that it is my responsibility to make good use of the money that he works so hard to bring home. I need to be a good steward of our finances. This means making sound decisions at the grocery store and around the house. I looked around today and felt so much better about saying that I was doing just that.

Not to brag, but I'm kind of awesome. :)

Today's the day

David is going in for surgery (septoplasty) in exactly 3 hours. Yikes. It was great to think about, but now that it's here it's a little nerve wrecking and a little much to handle. BUT we are fully trusting that the outcome is in the Lord's hands. We know there is a chance that it might not fully resolve the issues he's having. We know that there are risks of irreversable side effects and damage. Like with any type of surgery, there are also risks that come from being under general anesthesia. We are resting in the peace that comes from knowing the Lord is in control. He will be by David's side and guiding the doctor's hands for every second of that 90 minute surgery. If you think of us today, send up a prayer. It's going to be a long day and an even longer week as he recovers.

My verse for today:
"Cast all your anxiety on Him because He cares for you." 1 Peter 5:7

Welcome, Twenty-Ten!

2010 is finally here! We were blessed at the last minute by David not having to work. I was under the impression that he was going to, but he worked it out and got today off. Then we were blessed again by friends who made last minute plans with us for ringing in the new year and they didn't mind us bringing our kiddo (pretty sure they might regret that now! - keep reading.)

So here goes...we were supposed to get together around 8pm-ish to let the kids play for a while before we laid them down for bed. Our friends are awesome and have a house with lots of extra bedrooms and each kiddo was going to have their own room to sleep in so they didn't disturb each other. After the wee ones were down, it was going to be game playing, chatting, fun time for us moms and dads. Yeah, sounds like a good plan right? Sure. The kids got there and were super excited to see each other. They played for a while and then it was time to face the challenge of bedtime. We all started the process at the same time, but after 20 or 30 minutes both my mommy friends were back to the party and my kid is still screaming. Great. There is always one in every crowd, but why did he have to be mine??? I gave up on putting him to bed and let David try. Sometimes Daddy can accomplish things that Mommy can't....but not tonight. My little stinker, er I mean, my adorable little angel decided he wasn't leaving the party for anything. Sleep was just not going to happen.

Yeah, I'm annoyed at this point. I'll say it. Why do the other moms and dads get kid-free time and I'm stuck with him in my lap all night. Most of the time he was being good though and wasn't' literally in my lap. He did just run around and play with trucks most of the night. Can't complain too much I guess. He was well behaved. He was just kind of a downer at first - then he got downright impressive. 10pm passed and he was still up...then 10:30....and 11:00.....and he was still going strong at 11:45 when we turned on the TV for the countdown. What the heck. He's 18 months. He should be passed out cold right now! Instead here he is in the middle of the living room dancing and trying to get the rest of us to bust a move with him. We figured if he could hold out this long then he deserved a little celebration too. He got a sippy cup of juice so he could have a little "Cheers!" moment with us. He didn't really get the concept, but he liked the juice. :)

Shortly after midnight the dads took off for some male bonding time. They didn't come back into the house until just after 1am. They stopped in their tracks when they saw that he was STILL AWAKE.....AND DANCING!! What the heck?!? This kid's got some serious party stamina. At this point he was very tired and near the crash point we packed it up and got out of there. He lasted - not kidding - about 1 mile in the car before he was asleep. What a stinker!

Yeah, I watch Dumbo at 4am. Don't judge me.

So here's a little run down of what's happened at our house in the last 24 hours or so.

Taylor left us at 6:30 last night and we made a trip to Meijer for a little pick me up for David and I. We got a little something special for dinner so neither of us had to cook. We had a rough day and neither of us were up to it. As soon as we got home it was time to start the bedtime routine of bathtime, jammies and such with David. We were done a little before 8pm and he was extra cranky so we put him to bed early. Too bad he didn't want to go to bed early! He had a very rough time falling asleep so we took pity on him and got him back up for some cuddle time. Disney's new tv movie Prep and Landing was on from 8 - 8:30 so we just enjoyed some family time. When that was done he fussed a bit going to bed, but this time he did fall asleep. David and I went to bed at 10pm.

David woke us up crying at midnight. I rocked him for about 10 minutes and put him to bed calm but awake. He fell asleep. Then he got up at 2am, 2:30, 3am, 3:30 and 4am. Each time I rocked him and laid him back down awake after 10 minutes. He was quiet for a while and then would get up screamin' after about 15-20 minutes. David didn't have to work so he was home and glad to get up and help too. He took the 3am time so I could try to fall asleep. Didn't work, but I apprecitaed the effort. By 4am I was done with crying and desperate for sleep so I did everything I could think of to make him comfy - changed the diaper, gave Tylenol for aches and pains that I might not know about (and he felt a bit warm, but I didn't know if it was hot from crying or a slight fever), checked over his body for some sort of injury. Nothing. He was wide awake and ready to run and play. I was not.

I needed some sort of break and didn't know what else to do so we put in Dumbo and sat on the couch until just after 5:30. I was falling asleep and couldn't trust him in the house if I nodded off so we tried going back to bed. We both conked out until I was so rudely interrupted by my alarm clock at 7:30. David was off work so he slept almost all night (minus that 3am time). He really came in handy today at helping me out. He was instrumental in me keeping my sanity and staying calm. I wanted a nap, but that just didn't happen. I was up from 2am-6am solid so I have a bit of catching up to do. Oh well.

It took a few hours, but over the course of the day I figured out why he was up last night and miserable. He is coming down with a cold. It's hitting pretty fast and intensifying quickly (for a cold) so it's kinda got him down. He started the day with just a bit of a fever (I wasn't even sure he had one) and a watery type runny nose. He's now looking like he feels miserable, got a definite but low grade fever, a very stuffy nose and is oozing snot. He just feels terrible when he lays down so his nap didn't go well. As you can imagine, that did nothing to ease the crankiness factor.

David is now at basketball practice for Agape's ball team and I am watching Lady and the Tramp with little David. Well, we're trying. He's sitting at the door putting on his shoes over his jammie feet and begging to go bye-bye and I'm just blogging. Meh. That's kind of like movie watching. I am not so patiently waiting for bedtime to roll around. I really need to get some sleep or I'll be crashing soon. Tomorrow brings grocery shopping, errands and another prenatal appt so I need to be on top on my game. Things need to get accomplished before the weekend.

Here's some pics of my sick boy napping with Dad. Good 'ol Dad. What would we do with out him?

You're never to sick to be fashionable! He REALLY wanted to go bye-bye tonight! I don't know where he thought I was going to take him.

Just another day....

So I was hoping for a better day than yesterday and this is what I got...

I got up as soon as my alarm went off and got right to work getting dressed and such. I wanted to feel better about myself and hopefully bring on a good mood in the process so I pulled out a very nice looking lavender sweater. I fixed my hair (somewhat), took a deep breath and then went to deal with my now awake and crying son. We got him some juice, started work on a bowl of fruit for breakfast and watched some news.

This is where it goes downhill. Taylor came to "play" today. As soon as her mom left and it was just us, David started smothering her with love. He wanted to be all over her giving kisses and hugs. Problem was, she didn't want them so she just cried. :( We made a firm "Do not touch Taylor" rule and I went back to making breakfast. After about a second and a half in the kitchen I heard a huge crash and a blood curling scream. Yep, my climber was at it again. He flipped Taylor's car seat upside down and climbed on top, stepped up on the exercise bike in the living room and tried to pull things out of her diaper bag. He was still in footy jammies so this didn't end well - hence the crash and scream. He slipped at the very top of this mountain he'd climbed and fell all the way down. He smacked his face on the handle part of the exercise bike and bit a small chunk out of the inside of his lower lip.

I ran to him right away and doled out huge amounts of hugs and kisses. I didn't realize right away that he bit himself so he was a bloody and drippy mess before I caught it. So much for that pretty lavender sweater I was wearing. The shoulder was now covered in toddler blood. Great. Just another load of laundry I have to get to immediately. :/ I ran for my red washcloth so I wouldn't stain up anything else and finished cleaning him up. After calling my mom to vent and get laundry tips, I realized that David's peds office had been open for 10 minutes and I needed to call them. He's had a nasty diaper rash for nearly 2 weeks that I can't clear up and I needed some advice. I waited on hold for more than 10 minutes to spill my story to a nurse who said nothing but "we need to make him an appointment." Really? And the front desk wouldn't do that until I waited on hold for 10 minutes to talk to you while dealing with 2 crying kids in the house? Awesome. Ok then. Let's make an appt shall we??

I left Taylor with David (once he got home from work - thankfully on time!) and took my little guy to the doc. I was in the building for a total of 17 minutes. They were SO on top of things today! Yes! Turns out it was an infection that he needs prescription cream for so we are off to Meijer. The doc's office faxed the prescription over to the pharmacy so it would be ready when I got there. I showed up about a half hour later and waited in line behind 4 people (one of whom took forever because they lost his meds) just to find out IT WASN'T DONE!!! What in the world was taking so long? Put his name sticker on the box of cream and let me out of here!! I was told they hadn't even started it so it would be at least another 15 minutes until I could pick it up. I went and did a little bit of shopping and came back. By this time, David is due for a nap and we are both starving as it's an hour past lunch time. I waited in line again, this time behind only 3 people and got his meds. Once back in the car, I realized that "quick little trip in to pick up only meds" had wasted 50 minutes. Grr. I'm not happy right now.

We got home, rushed through lunch and put the poor little guy down for a nap. Taylor must have sensed me getting a free minute to relax because as soon - and we are talking the very second - I laid him down, she woke up from her nap. She didn't sleep well because she didn't eat for David while I was gone so she was a tad on the starving side as well. I gave her bowl after bowl of food and let her wash it down with a bottle.

All is happy in the Sager house again. Things are going well. :)

The rotten weekend continues...

So after last night's date fiasco, I was pretty sure that today would look great in comparison. Not so much. I'm in a bit of a sourpuss kind of mood. The morning started with little David and I oversleeping. Not by much, it just wasn't what I planned. We were slightly pressed for time before church so I was really trying to hurry to get baths and showers and breakfast done in time.

David has been home at 10am for a few weeks now, but he was running late too so breakfast was pushed back a bit. I really wanted a shower before I left home so I put David in his crib to contain the chaos while I was busy. Normally, I would have left him with David, but with him running late that was just not an option. I sped my way thru a record setting shower and went back to get David, sure that by now he was screaming his head off. Not true. He had laid down and fallen asleep in his crib.

So now it's 10:15, David is asleep, David isn't home from work, breakfast isn't started and I have to leave for church in about 25 minutes. Are you seeing why I'm frazzled?? David pulled in at 10:20 and i made breakfast anyway. I had given up on showing up to church on time so I was going to let little D sleep and go to church late and by myself. This plan was also flawed. I pulled our danishes out of the oven and bit into one, finding out about *that* much too late that they were uncooked and doughy in the middle. I now was scrambling to make something else for us to eat....then I looked at the clock. 10:45. Church starts at 11am. Rats. This just isn't going to happen. By the time I pulled myself out of my chair and got my disappointed butt in gear, I was not feeling breakfast food anymore so I made lunch and called it good.

Little David slept for an hour and a half and woke up with unending energy. David and I want nothing more than to climb into bed and sleep the rest of the weekend away, but keeping with the theme of rotten-ness, that isn't going to happen. David has a dead deer to process and freeze and then there is that small matter of a little boy to look after... Oh well.

I don't know when our movie date will be rescheduled. We were looking at Wednesday, but that's one of David's last chances to go hunting before the season closes. Blech. Life stinks.

Disappointing Date Night

So David was supposed to take me out for my birthday tonight (ok, it was for our birthdays being that they are only 10 days apart, but really, let's be honest I like to focus on myself). We were going to see The Blind Side with Sandra Bullock, but it didn't happen. :( I'm pretty bummed. I was really looking forward to it. We got to the theater right before show time only to find 1,000 people (literally - we checked the ticket sales) there for the 7pm movies. Most were waiting in ridiculously long lines for New Moon to start. The others were there to see New Moon only to find out that it was sold out so they went to a different movie. This caused our movie (as well as movies that have been out for 2 weeks) to sell out which is unheard of at the theater on a normal night. What the crap. It's my birthday date people!! I wanted to see the movie with my Babe and now I'm standing in a packed theater, 20 minutes away from home, with a sitter at my house for no reason and I think I feel my pregnant hormones raging. I may lash out in an angry rage or start crying at any time. I'm not sure which. Be prepared for anything.

Since the sitter was already with David and we really wanted out of bedtime duties for a change, we decided to abandon all hopes of a romantic date night and just go Christmas shopping. I have every last present purchased now and they are all neatly stacked and awaiting their wrapping and bows. At this point I must pause for a confession. When I was younger, the only date night my parents EVER had was one night a year to go Christmas shopping. I have relentlessly, for years on end, given my poor mother grief for taking her only date night and ruining it by getting fast food and going to K-Mart. Romantic, Mom. Very nice. Let's flash back to 3 hours ago shall we? I was sitting in a corner booth at McDonald's chatting about all the good deals we just got at Wal-Mart and how much we loved Mom for staying home with David. It hit me in a rush that I was indeed turning into my mother. Part of me just about died laughing, while another part just wanted to cry and mourn the "pre-mom" me that I once knew.

All in all, a good night regardless. We got away from the poopy diapers and bedtime routine and even accomplished some things in the process.
