Round 2

Looks like life won't be slowing down any time soon. David and I found out on Monday the 15th that we will be parents once again! We revealed the big news to everyone at little David's first birthday party last Saturday. We are so excited to be adding to our family.

I had my first appointment with the doctor today. It was nothing much. Just some basic blood work and medical history evaluation. I did find out that my due date is February 18, 2010. I am 6 weeks pregnant today. Up next, an ultrasound on July 7th. We'll keep you all updated!

Wonderful ones

Everyone warns you about the "terrible twos". You even hear people mention the "terrific threes", but no has ever mentioned the "wonderful ones". I'd like to take a crack at that and enlighten you all on a little subject I like to call the wonderful ones. Yes he/she may look cute and their smile may melt your heart, but when no one is looking I assure you that the little angel you see before you has the ability to demolish a whole house in 3 seconds flat. They will find things that you thought they never would, lose things you think you'll never find again and bring about destruction in all forms. Overnight they will become a little person with a mind of their own, do 'naughty' things and (who taught them this?!?) they will intentionally disobey you. I would like to take a second now to remind you that they are in fact only one year old....12 months...365 days. No matter how you say it, it's just not that old. How do they know how to do all the things that really irritate you when they haven't been on this earth for very long at all???

I'm sure some of you still may not believe me so I have come to my keyboard prepared to provide examples. #1 - My gorgeous little son was sitting at the dinner table eating like a starving child when he started asking for more. I acknowledged his perfect sign language by plopping some more lima beans on his high chair tray. I then looked back to David to finish the conversation we were in. When I glanced back at little David I noticed that he only had one or two lima beans left. I was soooo proud of him for eating his veggies so well! I asked him if they were all gone and with perfect sign language he waved his hands in the air letting me know they were all gone and he was done with dinner. I was so impressed with his great dinner that I gave him a cookie for dessert and started cleaning him up to get up from the table. As I walked away to get a rag to clean him with I noticed him take the last little piece of lima bean off his tray and sneak it down into his chair by his side. I stopped dead in my tracks. He was being sneaky. He tricked me. I went to clean him up and removed his tray and found a nice little pile of lima beans stacked up in the corner of the chair. How dare he! He was supposed to be eating those!

#2 - The sippy cup incident. He really doesn't enjoy drinking from sippy cups. They are more of a toy than anything else. With summer heat on it's way I really want him to stay hydrated so I have been trying very hard to teach him how to get water out of it. Lesson number one is don't throw your cup on the floor. You will be much more successful if it's in your hand. He gets reprimanded when it hits the floor. He was being especially difficult one night at dinner and I had just about had it. Everything was hitting the floor - cups, veggies, spaghetti, everything. He took a big boy drink out of his cup and then held it over the edge of his tray getting ready to drop it. I looked at him and in a very stern, no nonsense mom voice told him not to drop his cup. I told him it was naughty to throw is things at dinner and I wanted him to be a big boy and keep his things on his tray. He looked me right in the eye, laughed and dropped his cup. I took a deep breath and said "That was naughty". He again looked me right in the eye and said "Uh oh." I instantly regretted trying to teach him that word. This was not the way I wanted to hear it for the first time.

What in the world happened to my angel? My precious little boy who was so adorable and never did anything wrong?.....oh yeah, he turned one.

Party day

Yesterday was party day. It went fabulously!! It was just how I wanted it to go. Absolutely perfect. We had a football themed party with a football field cake and teddy graham players, football shaped rice krispie treats with chocolate laces and cupcakes arrainged in the shape of a big football. I had such a great time putting everything together. I even made his party invitations. I cut ticket shapes out of poster board and typed all the "game day" info on the back. It was a big hit.

Here are a few pictures of the birthday boy for your enjoyment.

One year in the making

My precious boy has done it. He turned one. Today was the big day. We tried to make it special and fun. We didn't do too much though because his party is on Saturday and we are really celebrating then. This morning we took a long walk with our friends Cerissa and James out in the woods. We came home for lunch and then went out for another walk in the afternoon. This time we headed out the library to get some birthday books. It was his very first time ever at the library. He was really diggin' it. He picked most of them out himself. He was asleep by the time that I walked all the way back home so we took a little nap next. When he got up we read a few of our new books and waited for Daddy to get home. From there we have just been having a nice relaxing evening. It has been a good day - very slow paced and laid back.....until now. My little boy has decided that he is now a big boy since he is one and he is refusing to sleep. Big boys get to stay up late, you know. I have been trying to get him to bed for almost 2 hours. He is way past his bedtime and I know he must be tired. I hear him winding down....I think this might be it.....yep, it is. He's finally asleep.

Goodnight world!

Boogie, Baby Boogie!

This was taken this afternoon. He did this for about 5 minutes straight. He absolutely cracks me up! I can't watch this without laughing. Dancing is his new favorite thing - especially since he figured out how to use this new toy. We've had it for a long time, but we only put batteries in it last night. He discovered dancing on his own about a week ago. We have little dance parties here at home where I'll just crank up the speakers and we'll jam out. And I must say, he's a very good dance partner! But until now it's been mostly me doing the dancing and him just being held. He really loves it and gets into it - especially during the slow songs when we get to cuddle. He'll just lay his head on my shoulder and be all cute and stuff. *sigh* I hope he never grows up.

You have no idea how much his little wiggle amuses me. I hope it brings a smile to your face and brightens your day too. Be blessed!

I'm an Aunt.....

......again! My little nephew, Derek, was born on the 2nd. He weighed in at 8lbs 8oz. That's a healthy baby boy! Mom and baby are home now and doing great! We took dinner to them tonight and saw little Derek again. He's precious!

Crawlers mean challenges

My boy is officially crawling now. You heard it here first, people. True story. David and I have had a very busy few weeks getting the house 'babyproofed' and safe for our little guy.

This is the house before we started. We gave him a few days to play and point out everything we needed to change. There was a lot of work to be done!

Our biggest challenge was the computer and the desk it was on. We had a desk that was just open shelves - no drawers or doors to close the electronics and wires inside. I had been kinda-sorta looking for a new desk for a couple of months, but i couldn't find what I wanted. And then when I did find what I wanted, it was waaay too much money. We needed something that had doors on the front and would close completely. I was venting my frustration to a very awesome friend of mine and she got on Craigslist the next morning and found the exact desk that I had described that I wanted. And she found it in my very favorite finish (cherry) AND it was only $25!!!! What a great friend! Such a blessing. We jumped in the car and took off to G.R. to pick it up. It fits all of our stuff perfectly and goes perfect in our house. We are very much in love with it. We were able to fix it up (it had a broken slide-out drawer that wouldn't slide out) and put a lock on it no problem. Thank you, Lord for Craigslist and awesome friends! :D

So close to one....

Yikes! My baby is going to be one in 16 days! What happened and where did the time go? I swear just yesterday I was all huge and pregnant with an ichy belly enjoying my somewhat selfish, self-centered life and then BAM! the contractions hit and I've never been the same - not that I would want it to be. I have never been happier.

My little guy has officially started crawling. What a late bloomer! Gotta love him. He is just way too content and laid back of a kid to have the motivation to crawl or walk any sooner that now. He is happy to sit in one place and play with toys. *sigh* I'm blessed. :) He has also started to really book it around the house by holding onto furniture and walk. He's a pro at finding me where ever I go now. I had to buy him his very first pair of real walking shoes today (size 5!) I don't want him down on the ground in stores and at other people's houses if he's barefoot.

We've gotten his one year portraits done too. That went sooo well. I was being a silly mommy and scheduled our appointment right at the beginning of nap time. Talk about shooting yourself in the foot. :( He also refused to eat lunch that day (too much playing to do, I guess) so I was sure the photographer was going to have her hands full. Much to our surprise it went amazing. He really pulled this one out for me. It was much more difficult to get smiles towards the end, but we did it! We should have them back in about 2 weeks. I had to pretty much order one of everything. He was so cute! I had David get in some pictures with him too and let me tell you - that was irresistable! My men are so handsome. The finished pictures just about brought tears to my eyes. So good.

I'm really looking forward to his birthday. His party's on the 20th at his Gramma and Granpa's house. Can't wait!
