Nursery rhymes according to Dad

My poor little Punkin had to suffer through this rough nursery rhyme yesterday:

"Little Boy Blue sat in a corner eating his blackbird pie. Then he pooped his pants and ran to his mom with a plum on his thumb and she said "You are a naughty boy!" "

And then I heard this little ditty:

"Jack and Jill went up a hill, then Jack jumped over a candle stick and it was over. After that, Jack could eat no fat. Wow! Jack's a busy guy isn't he, Punkin?"

I wish I had a witty comment or something funny to share, but I'm speechless. He really got me on this one.

Good Morning!

This is what I was greeted with this morning when I got up. I heard him messing around over the baby monitor, but I had no idea what I was in for. I braced myself for the worst (that came in handy when I got close enough to smell the diaper!) and went to check on him. His faithful friend, Dog, was laying on the floor, his pants were off (how'd he do that?!?) and he was looking smug as ever. As for the diaper...he had blueberries (and apparently long stringy hair?) yesterday - yum! It's good to laugh first thing in the morning. It starts your day off right. :)

He walks!...He talks!....He takes his pants off?

Pregnancy updates

Hi there all you friends and relatives in far off states! (or the ones who live here, but I haven't talked to in a while!)

I am now 13 weeks, 4 days pregnant. My next routine OB appointment is August 31st and my gender revealing ultrasound will be scheduled approx. 3 weeks after that. Now that I am officially out of the 1st trimester and into the second I'm feeling much less nauseous and I (most days) am less tired and have more energy. The headaches have continued however. I am having daily migraines. Most days they are debilitating and I will often lie in bed with the covers over my head to block out the light and try to sleep it off. I have been given a medication to help with the pain, but in pregnancy nothing is 100% safe. My doctors prefer that I not be on it, but at this point the benefits to me outweigh the risks to the baby. Taken in small doses, the chance of side effects and complications drop dramatically. For this reason, I am to take it only during very severe headaches and try to cope on my own with the rest of them. I am aware however, that this drug - though the safest they could give me - has been known to cause problems. At this point, I have no choice and I'm trusting the Lord to reduce the severity of my headaches and protect my baby from harm. Medicine is not an exact science, but the Lord knows precisely what He is doing.

That being said, I am loving being pregnant again. I love the ups and the downs, the good and the bad. There is so much I could complain about, but what would be the point? I asked the Lord to allow me to have more children and He blessed me with an answered prayer. I have heard too many stories from too many women who can not say the same, that I can not - and will not - take this for granted. There is nothing like being able to bring a tiny little life into this world. My heart cries for the women who have had the opportunity to do the same and have chosen to end the life of their unborn child. It leaves me completely heartbroken.

I will keep you all updated on all the happenings of Baby S. and I. Talk to you all at the end of the month!

I wish....

~ that crying babies would soothe themselves.
~ that dinner cooked itself with little to no planning on my part.
~ bathrooms were less gross to clean.
~ that one year olds were a little more tolerant of grocery shopping.
~ that every store had a one cent horsey ride like Meijer does.
~ kitchen sinks were a little bigger to make the amount of dirty dishes look smaller.
~ there was a machine to not only wash and dry my clothes, but to fold and put away too.
~ I had more patience.
~ there was a magic pill to make my body invincible to all illnesses, aches, pains, feelings of exhaustion and bad moods.
~ I had a personal chef.
~ there were at least 3 more hours in every day.
~ babies came with "how to" manuals.
~ my birthday rolled around more than once a year.
~ McDonald's would quit raising their prices. It makes being lazy very expensive. :)
~ "healthy" food looked and tasted more appealing.
~ I was a bit more outgoing and a little less shy.
~ nursing bras were a bit more user friendly.
~ technology wasn't outdated by the time you got your electronic device home from the store.
~ "fashionable" shoes didn't hurt so bad.
~ sucking everything in with the use of "mom" jeans wasn't such an appealing idea to me now. I'm only 22!!
~ pony tails still looked like I was being "sporty" and not like I ran out of time to shower and brush my hair.

Sweet Kisses

Dog (Little David's stuffed animal) gave me good morning kisses this morning when we got up. So sweet. David held him right up to my face and made kissy noises. My first thought was "oh my goodness, Dog needs a bath in the washing machine. He stinks." and then he was sweet enough to give me 2 tiny kisses on my cheek. Ah, little boys are so great. :)

Quite the comedian

Watching my son learn, grow and develop has to be one of the best parts of motherhood. He has developed quite the little personality lately. It really cracks me up to see him acting like a grown up. He doesn't always do "baby" things anymore. His latest thing is trying to make us laugh. He knows what is funny to us now and what will make me giggle. If I am quiet for even a few minutes, I can count on David now to break the silence. He can't stand a quiet room! People need to be laughing. A few examples:

~ I was watching his little friend, Eva, one night at dinner time. They were having Mac-n-Cheese and hot dogs. David decided dinner was too quiet and too boring so he broke out the comedy act. He started sticking his hot dog pieces and his macaroni noodles to his forehead (who knew hot dog stuck to skin?) to make Eva laugh. She wasn't all that amused, but his antics were really cracking him up. He looked to each and every person in the room and giggled and touched the bits of hot dog to make sure we saw what he was doing. Very funny. Very hard not to laugh and encourage him.

~ We were driving home from Grand Rapids this past weekend. We had just come from my niece's 1st birthday party. The party was at 2pm (David's nap time) so he was forced to skip the nap to have fun. He didn't mind...until he got in the car and started to unwind. That was no good! Again he broke out the comedy act to spice things up a bit. The car was dead quiet for a good 15 miles. We were afraid to jinx things by looking, but we were pretty sure he had fallen asleep. Just then I hear my name. "Mom, Mom, Mom, Mom." Rats. He's not asleep. I didn't look back right away instead I answered him and asked what he needed. He broke out into hysterical laughter and replied with "Mom, Mom, Dog, Mom". At this point, I was really wondering what was happening back there so I bravely turned around, expecting to see his finger in his nose or something disgusting along those lines. Nope. He had gotten his stuffed animal, "Dog", to balance on top of his head. The car seat is much taller than he is so he was able to rest Dog against the back of the car seat while on top of his head. I made the mistake of laughing the first time I saw it so for the next 20 miles all I heard was "Mom, Mom, Mom. Dog." until I turned around and laughed. It was only funny for the first 4 or 5 miles.
I leave you now with a little glimpse of the comedy act of David and Dog. They are good together.

Hello Freedom! Nice to meet you!

Yahoooo! We are a 2 car family again! We bought a van in Feb '08 only to total it in July '08. No one was hurt in the accident. The only loss was the van (Thank you, Jesus!). We have been using just one car since then. It's a very small two door car. This presented many problems, the biggest one being that we could only fit 1 carseat in the backseat because it was so small. This was worrying us just a bit since we have baby #2 on the way. We have been keeping our eyes open for a great deal on another van (and so have our friends - thank you, you-know-who!) and we found this one last week. It has had only one owner and has been very well taken care of. It was a deal that we simply couldn't pass up.

Here's the story: We were having a hard time finding a good car in our price range when we decided to up our budget a bit and start looking at dealerships. The amount we came up with was more than we wanted to pay, but was a reasonable amount that we could pay without going too far into debt. That very day, a friend called saying there was a great looking van just down the road from their house. It was half the price that we had just agreed to spend. Thank you, Lord! You are so faithful to bless your children! Everything was finalized on the sale today and we were able to bring it home. We ran around this afternoon getting insurance, registration and a license plate - you know, all that "stuff". I got David's carseat installed and the plate put on right before dinner. Now I'm ready to roll!

Watch out world! I'm free! There's nothing like being able to go places. :)
