It's been a good year, but you know what "They" say...all good things must come to an end. I for one, will be celebrating. Perhaps not in the most outrageous of ways, but it's bound to be good times. I believe the invite actually said "bring your own Pack and Play and highchair". That's a rager of a party right there. You know it's giong to get wild and crazy when you are bringing your one year old. But hey, what did you expect from me? I'm a party animal! All the one and a half year olds like me.
If there is anything I've learned in my partying days it's that to be a true party animal you must follow the party animal rules. Number 1: Stay out much later than you should. Abandon everything you know about those so called "bedtimes". For me that means I forego my typical bedtime of 10pm-ish and stay up all evening - until midnight!!! I mean, you gotta admit it's a little crazy when you see tomorrow before you go to bed tonight. But that's how I roll. Number 2: Surround yourself with other party animals. This New Year's Eve I'm really going crazy. I'm hanging with my pint-sized posse. They may be only one and a half, but they can get wild. You turn up the stereo a bit and watch them go nuts! They can really bust out the moves! I must admit they put me to shame every time. And finally rule number 3: Do things against your better judgement. I think this means I'll be having 2 - count 'em two - glasses of sparkling juice instead of just one. Ususally I try to avoid liquids for at least 30 minutes before bedtime to ensure that I'm not up every hour peeing, but hey, that's the sacrifice of being a party animal. You gotta throw caution to the wind and just do it. There's really no time to worry about your pregnant bladder exploding.
I hope you all had a fabulous 2009 and here's wishing you the best in 2010! Have a safe and happy new year. :)

Blame it on the boots
David got new boots for Christmas from Mommy and Daddy. He doesn't want to take them off for anything. Every single morning he gets up and insists that they got on over his jammie feet. The rest of the day consists of him running around in circles yelling "Boots!". He has been crashing hard in the very few moments that he's still. Too bad it was lunch time! David and I were sitting there talking when I looked over and saw him nod off. I was laughing so hard I had to leave the room so I didn't wake him up before we got pictures.

Since when is Christmas a week long?
We had such a fabulous Christmas. Our celebrations and relaxation covered much more than just one day. It was more like a full week. David sprained his ankle the Saturday before Christmas and wasn't able to walk for a few days so he took Monday the 21st - Christmas off of work to recover. I know it wasn't the best of circumstances, but it was beyond fabulous to have him home with David and I. We got some really good family time in. We woke up every morning and had breakfast and watched cartoons together. Then we worked on Christmas prep plans, took a nap and ate. Pretty much the best week ever.
Christmas Eve was spent making a gingerbread house, eating pizza for lunch so I didn't have to cook, wrapping presents, more napping and then off to my Mom and Dad's for our traditional snack foods and movie "loungy" type night. We made it home just in time for bedtime and fell into the most peaceful sleep ever. You know, with the sugar plum fairies dancing, Prancer prancing and jingle bells jingling. The whole nine yards. Very restful.
Christmas morning kept with the laid back theme of the rest of the week. We all slept in until 7:30 (WOW!!!) and then David opened his presents from Mommy and Daddy. We got him a toy shopping cart and a huge tub of plastic foods. It was a very big hit and he played with nothing but that for the rest of the morning. By the time we left for lunch at Grandma's house, we had every last one of those 90 pieces of food on the floor. The house was quite the mess, but in my Christmas cheer I just didn't care. We walked out without a second thought and left it all right there. There are more important things on Christmas than messes! :)
Our first stop of the day was my parents house again. This time the festivities included both my brothers and their families. It was a packed full house that often erupted in moments of chaos, but that's how we like it. It's what the holidays are all about, right? It was so good to have the whole fam together again. I saw my oldest bro and his wife and daughter at Thanksgiving, but the other one was stuck in Illinois where he lives. He's a doctor and doesn't often get away from the hospital. We are so proud of everything he does, but it's still hard not to have him and his family there around the holidays. After a huge ham dinner, picture taking and present opening we left to celebrate with David's parents. Again, this gathering was centered around food, pictures and presents...not that I'm complaining! :) Little David was so tired by this point that when I sat him on the couch to take his boots and coat off, he slumped over and fell asleep. Yeah, that's a tired boy right there. He slept in the middle of the living room with his coat on for almost 45 minutes. It was dinnertime and much too late for a nap, but the little guy was so tuckered out that I didn't have the heart to wake him at first. I thought the noise of the house and crying cousins would have woken him, but he slept through. Finally at 5:30pm I tried to wake him. He was awake for gift opening then, but just barely. Poor kid. :(
David made out like a bandit this year. He got a brand new snowsuit, shopping cart and plastic food, an interactive/talking/chug along Thomas the Train, a vTech learning toy, a set of alphabet blocks, a handmade blanket from Grandma (with a tiny matching one for Dog), a teddy bear, 2 DVDs, a tool set, 3 pairs of jammies, a book and a new matching hat and mitten set. With all that stuff for just one little boy you'd think he'd be set right? Yes and no. He was still missing a pair of winter boots. We took off on Saturday in search of a good after-Christmas deal. We found it. Target had the perfect pair for him. They look like moon boots! How cool is that?! NOW he's set. I can't think of a thing that he could possibly need now.
Last night David and I had the chance to double date with some friends of ours to a Jim Brickman holiday concert. It was fantastic! We left David with Aunt Ashley for the day and had a blast without him. I have to admit I did call to check in a few times, but it was a very long day so I had to! The only time I really got to missing him though was at dinner time. We sat down in the restaurant and I just didn't know what to do with myself. I am a little too used to the crayons and coloring pages they bring for "David". Without something to entertain me, I was quite lost. I actually had to have a conversation - with adults!! As a stay at home mom, my conversation skills with people over the age of 2 are a smidge rusty. If it didn't happen on Sesame Street then I don't know about it. Makes it hard. I like to think that I coped well though. :)
Today I am...well I'm just plain happy. No, make that extra special happy. The deep down, extra patient with my kiddo, doesn't matter that David is coming home late from work kind of happy. I started my day with a hot cup of tea, pancakes, eggs and bacon. Now I'm sitting here blogging and watching it snow. It is beautiful outside (and I can say that because I'm inside!). Today is going to be a good day. :)

Christmas Eve
It's Christmas Eve and there's a bunch to do! I have to wrap presents, prepare some finger foods for the annual Christmas Eve "Movie and Munchies" night at my mom and dad's house, I need to get a head start on cooking the dish I'm taking for tomorrow's big dinner with the family and there is a gingerbread house sitting in my pantry that needs to be built! It's going to be a good day. :)
I know I've said it before, but I'll say it again. I love this time of year. It's so fun!! I hope you all are enjoying it as much as I am. Have a great time tonight and tomorrow and remember He is the reason for this wonderful season.

Learning on his own
As a mom, I can talk all the live long day about what David isn't allowed to do. "Don't touch that", "Don't go over there", "Don't put that in your mouth", "Get your hand out of the toilet". Sometimes it seems that he's just not going to listen no matter what. That's when you have to step back and (if it's not dangerous or harmful) let him learn on his own.
Case in point, the dining room table. He is not allowed to climb on or touch anything that is on the dining room table. If anything is there it's a fruit bowl or paperwork we're trying to keep out of his reach or some thing like that. Nothing he's ever allowed to play with. We spend all day steering him away from the table and reiterating the fact that he's not allowed to touch it. Nothing we say seems to get through to him. I am pretty sure he thinks we are kidding. We're not.
Last night I was cleaning up supper dishes and leftovers while he was running around playing. I took a stack of stuff to the kitchen and started rinsing off the dishes when I heard a huge splash, a series of gasps then crying. Yep, he found it. I hadn't cleared our cups off the table yet and he was all over them. He pulled my full-to-the-brim, 24 oz. cup of ice cold water down on his head. I turned to see what had happened and then calmly went back to my last 2 dishes and laughed to myself. After I finished what I was doing, I found a rag and cleaned the table and chair to stop the drips. No sense letting the mess on the floor get any worse. Then - and only then - did I take the cold, soaking wet clothes off my screaming child. Maybe sitting in them an extra second or 2 will get the point across.
After he calmed down a bit and we talked about how it's not nice to touch the table when mommy says no, I gave him a rag and made him clean up the floor. No, of course, he didn't do a good job. He didn't even come close to touching the mess he made, but for every second that I was down there cleaning he was too. It serves him right. He did something he wasn't supposed to do and it resulted in a mess. Someone has to clean it up. In life, Mommy is not always going to be there to clean up after your mistakes. You gotta learn early how to handle it for yourself.
Perhaps next time he'll listen when I tell him not to touch.

Finished!
I am finally finished updating everything I missed early this month. Make sure you read all the posts from December so you don't miss anything!
A good report
I went to another prenatal appt this morning. I met one of the midwives from the office that I had never seen before. She was awesome! I loved her and I truly hope and pray that she is on call when I go into labor! Now if only this baby will cooperate....
Everything looked fabulously normal with me and the baby today. Nothing out of the ordinary and nothing to be concerned about. It was a pretty boring appt, but those are the best kind! I'd rather have it that way then come home worried about all sorts of things that are going wrong. I took a glucose test 3 weeks ago that came back negative for diabetes. Praise the Lord! That's good news. I am measuring right on with my due date and my weight is still good too. I am 31 weeks and have gained 14 pounds. The goal is 25-35 overall so I'm still at a very good place. Like I said, kind of a boring trip to the doc. :)
We talked some about the method of pain control that I want to use for delivery. She was very supportive of my choice to go for an all natural, unmedicated birth. That eases my mind a lot. It helps to know that I have my doctor/midwife's support. She encouraged me a lot and said that considering David's delivery and birth story she thinks I can do it. I love kind words and encouragement!!

Go Agape!
Today is Agape's third basketball game. Little David and I were able to make it to the last 2, but we are staying home this time. His cold is now full blown and quite catchable so we are doing the world a favor by staying home and keeping it to ourselves. We really don't want to infect anyone with less than a week until Christmas. That wouldn't be a very nice gift at all. :( I'm hoping the team does ok in our absence. :) We're there in spirit guys!!! Do well, play hard and bring home a win!

Not much better...
Last night didn't go much better with little David. He went to bed at 8pm and woke up for the first time at 10pm. Between then and 2:20 I was up 7 times. Not much sleeping happened. He fell asleep in my arms after about a second every single time so I kept laying him down hoping that one of those times it would work. No such luck. At 2:20 he'd been up so many times that he couldn't fall back asleep. I was up until 3:45 when David left for work. I was soooo tired so I tried putting him back in his crib again and he slept til 4:30. I was not about to stay up for hours and I really didn't have any sleep to speak of until that point so I took him to bed with me. I don't usually do that - I hate it actually - but I was dead tired and David was gone so I had no help. We couldn't tag team last night. :( Once in bed together, we slept non-stop until 7:30. It was a beautiful 3 hours. ...and it's pretty much all I got. I think the cuddling helped! :) He stayed curled up on my shoulder all night. *big sigh* It was nice in a "I hate that this has to happen" kind of way. What are you going to do? He's sick.
So far he's asked for food and was up for a bath. It's looking as good as it can. I think his fever may have broken but I can't be sure. We'll have to give it some more time. I'm hoping he gets a good nap today (unlike yesterday). He really needs to sleep this bug off. He's been sick before (and worse than this), but he's never held out on sleep so long. Not sure what to do with the poor kid. I have the humidifier going and a Vicks Plug-in fan thing on too. His bed is propped up so his head is a little higher too.
I have a prenatal appt today then home for lunch and out for a latte and grocery shopping. I need some alone time...probably not as much as I need sleep right now, but I'll take what I can get. :)

Yeah, I watch Dumbo at 4am. Don't judge me.
So here's a little run down of what's happened at our house in the last 24 hours or so.
Taylor left us at 6:30 last night and we made a trip to Meijer for a little pick me up for David and I. We got a little something special for dinner so neither of us had to cook. We had a rough day and neither of us were up to it. As soon as we got home it was time to start the bedtime routine of bathtime, jammies and such with David. We were done a little before 8pm and he was extra cranky so we put him to bed early. Too bad he didn't want to go to bed early! He had a very rough time falling asleep so we took pity on him and got him back up for some cuddle time. Disney's new tv movie Prep and Landing was on from 8 - 8:30 so we just enjoyed some family time. When that was done he fussed a bit going to bed, but this time he did fall asleep. David and I went to bed at 10pm.
David woke us up crying at midnight. I rocked him for about 10 minutes and put him to bed calm but awake. He fell asleep. Then he got up at 2am, 2:30, 3am, 3:30 and 4am. Each time I rocked him and laid him back down awake after 10 minutes. He was quiet for a while and then would get up screamin' after about 15-20 minutes. David didn't have to work so he was home and glad to get up and help too. He took the 3am time so I could try to fall asleep. Didn't work, but I apprecitaed the effort. By 4am I was done with crying and desperate for sleep so I did everything I could think of to make him comfy - changed the diaper, gave Tylenol for aches and pains that I might not know about (and he felt a bit warm, but I didn't know if it was hot from crying or a slight fever), checked over his body for some sort of injury. Nothing. He was wide awake and ready to run and play. I was not.
I needed some sort of break and didn't know what else to do so we put in Dumbo and sat on the couch until just after 5:30. I was falling asleep and couldn't trust him in the house if I nodded off so we tried going back to bed. We both conked out until I was so rudely interrupted by my alarm clock at 7:30. David was off work so he slept almost all night (minus that 3am time). He really came in handy today at helping me out. He was instrumental in me keeping my sanity and staying calm. I wanted a nap, but that just didn't happen. I was up from 2am-6am solid so I have a bit of catching up to do. Oh well.
It took a few hours, but over the course of the day I figured out why he was up last night and miserable. He is coming down with a cold. It's hitting pretty fast and intensifying quickly (for a cold) so it's kinda got him down. He started the day with just a bit of a fever (I wasn't even sure he had one) and a watery type runny nose. He's now looking like he feels miserable, got a definite but low grade fever, a very stuffy nose and is oozing snot. He just feels terrible when he lays down so his nap didn't go well. As you can imagine, that did nothing to ease the crankiness factor.
David is now at basketball practice for Agape's ball team and I am watching Lady and the Tramp with little David. Well, we're trying. He's sitting at the door putting on his shoes over his jammie feet and begging to go bye-bye and I'm just blogging. Meh. That's kind of like movie watching. I am not so patiently waiting for bedtime to roll around. I really need to get some sleep or I'll be crashing soon. Tomorrow brings grocery shopping, errands and another prenatal appt so I need to be on top on my game. Things need to get accomplished before the weekend.

You're never to sick to be fashionable! He REALLY wanted to go bye-bye tonight! I don't know where he thought I was going to take him.

Just another day....
So I was hoping for a better day than yesterday and this is what I got...
I got up as soon as my alarm went off and got right to work getting dressed and such. I wanted to feel better about myself and hopefully bring on a good mood in the process so I pulled out a very nice looking lavender sweater. I fixed my hair (somewhat), took a deep breath and then went to deal with my now awake and crying son. We got him some juice, started work on a bowl of fruit for breakfast and watched some news.
This is where it goes downhill. Taylor came to "play" today. As soon as her mom left and it was just us, David started smothering her with love. He wanted to be all over her giving kisses and hugs. Problem was, she didn't want them so she just cried. :( We made a firm "Do not touch Taylor" rule and I went back to making breakfast. After about a second and a half in the kitchen I heard a huge crash and a blood curling scream. Yep, my climber was at it again. He flipped Taylor's car seat upside down and climbed on top, stepped up on the exercise bike in the living room and tried to pull things out of her diaper bag. He was still in footy jammies so this didn't end well - hence the crash and scream. He slipped at the very top of this mountain he'd climbed and fell all the way down. He smacked his face on the handle part of the exercise bike and bit a small chunk out of the inside of his lower lip.
I ran to him right away and doled out huge amounts of hugs and kisses. I didn't realize right away that he bit himself so he was a bloody and drippy mess before I caught it. So much for that pretty lavender sweater I was wearing. The shoulder was now covered in toddler blood. Great. Just another load of laundry I have to get to immediately. :/ I ran for my red washcloth so I wouldn't stain up anything else and finished cleaning him up. After calling my mom to vent and get laundry tips, I realized that David's peds office had been open for 10 minutes and I needed to call them. He's had a nasty diaper rash for nearly 2 weeks that I can't clear up and I needed some advice. I waited on hold for more than 10 minutes to spill my story to a nurse who said nothing but "we need to make him an appointment." Really? And the front desk wouldn't do that until I waited on hold for 10 minutes to talk to you while dealing with 2 crying kids in the house? Awesome. Ok then. Let's make an appt shall we??
I left Taylor with David (once he got home from work - thankfully on time!) and took my little guy to the doc. I was in the building for a total of 17 minutes. They were SO on top of things today! Yes! Turns out it was an infection that he needs prescription cream for so we are off to Meijer. The doc's office faxed the prescription over to the pharmacy so it would be ready when I got there. I showed up about a half hour later and waited in line behind 4 people (one of whom took forever because they lost his meds) just to find out IT WASN'T DONE!!! What in the world was taking so long? Put his name sticker on the box of cream and let me out of here!! I was told they hadn't even started it so it would be at least another 15 minutes until I could pick it up. I went and did a little bit of shopping and came back. By this time, David is due for a nap and we are both starving as it's an hour past lunch time. I waited in line again, this time behind only 3 people and got his meds. Once back in the car, I realized that "quick little trip in to pick up only meds" had wasted 50 minutes. Grr. I'm not happy right now.
We got home, rushed through lunch and put the poor little guy down for a nap. Taylor must have sensed me getting a free minute to relax because as soon - and we are talking the very second - I laid him down, she woke up from her nap. She didn't sleep well because she didn't eat for David while I was gone so she was a tad on the starving side as well. I gave her bowl after bowl of food and let her wash it down with a bottle.
All is happy in the Sager house again. Things are going well. :)
I'm ashamed...
....because I've let down my peeps. I haven't been updating like I should. BUT that does not mean in any way shape or form that there is nothing to update about! There has been loads going on so far in December and it's way to much to fit in one post so be on the lookout for bunches of back-dated postings from December 2 - today. I have lots to share and I'm hoping to get to it soon, though maybe not today. Today I'll be lucky to still be alive and functioning at bedtime. David will be home in a hour from work then we need to get lunch. I have to take off right after that for a stop at the bank to dispute some fraudulent charges (there will be another post coming with details about this one!) and got to 2 different stores for grocery shopping. I have to be home no later than 3pm to get little David up from a nap and dressed and make sure David is done working out for the day, has gotten through the shower and shaved and is dressed himself. We need to be out the door by 3:30pm for a 4:00 picture appt at JC Penney. As soon as that's over I need to be back home to get dinner for the 2 of them and get myself out the door to meet up with 2 friends of mine for a late dinner and chat session. It's mom's night away!! :) I'm going to need it after all that!

Holiday at the Homestead
Following annual tradition, we went to the Delano Homestead at the Nature Center today. What a great time! It is so neat to see how they lived long ago without the common conveniences of the modern age. At the log cabin (a replica of the Delano's original home) Aunt Ashley helped David make a beeswax candle by dipping a wick in hot wax then in a bucket of cold water and going back and forth until the layers built up forming a candle. David was not so good at it so every time it hit the cold water he'd jerk it around and pick up all these little bits of old hardened wax from other candles. They all stuck to the side of his candle making it look quite bumpy and weird. I will cherish it forever and never ever burn it. :) If you need a closer look, you can click the picture and make it bigger. Click the browser's back button to return to the blog site.

Agape B-Ball is underway!!
Agape had their first game today....and we won (check out the scoreboard. It's for reals!). All the Moms and young tots came out to cheer on the Dads. We like to think that it added a little something special to the sidelines and maybe even contributed to them winning the game...maybe not. A bunch of toddlers shrieking on the sidelines and constantly running onto the court probably wasn't all that helpful in reality. But win they did! They are just that awesome!

Just a few highlights of the game: Eva found a miniscuale speck on the gym floor and studied it, David crouched down to help find more, David found fun stairs to climb, we played with trains and that sexy number 12 brought down the house with his sweet b-ball skills...ok, perhaps I'm a bit biased. :)

Who's up for a little Christmas tea?
I had a fabulous time tonight at Agape's annual ladies Christmas tea. It was just so much fun! Here's a glimpse of our table. Two of my friends and I planned and decorated it. We served hot chocolate instead of tea and had plenty of scrumptious and tasty chocolate treats. My mom and sister were able to make it as well (they are in the first pic with me).

What's better than a box?
I went out for some very mild Black Friday shopping. There were a few really good deals that I didn't want to pass up. I told myself that if they were still there when I got there then I would buy them. I didn't set an alarm or rush around though. I woke up around 7:30 and got myself and David dressed. I gave him some breakfast and then we headed out. The traffic and the crowds were much more manageable by then and it wasn't really all that stressful.
One thing I really wanted to get was a 5 piece luggage set from JC Penney. It is originally $160, but was on sale for $38. That's an enticing bargain. I made it to and from the mall without incident and all was well. I was pretty pumped about my great deal so as soon as I got home I took it all out of the box and opened everything up. I showed little David (not that he cared much) and we oohed and aahed over it for a while. My favorite part was, of course, the satisfaction of a great deal. David's favorite part was...yep, you guessed it...the box it came in. He was playing peek-a-boo in the first picture. The second picture is him stuck. He didn't really get the whole backing out of it thing. He kept trying to turn around in it. Didn't work.

Busy holidays
Why is it that the moment Thanksgiving hits chaos ensues? My calendar is filling up faster than ever before and we've JUST STARTED!! Everyone and their brother has a holiday event or party planned, Christmas lights are going up like crazy and even grocery shopping trips are becoming hectic with the extra holiday traffic and shoppers in the crowd.
That being said, this is my favorite time of year. It kicks off with my birthday, then Thanksgiving, David's birthday, 437 holiday parties and then ends with the grand finale...Christmas. It's always crazy, sometimes chaotic and oftentimes more expensive than the rest of the year, but it's also fun and filled with family, memories, laughter, friends and good times.
David and I have our Christmas shopping done (before Black Friday, thank you very much. I'm
not one of those crazy shoppers. Not worth it.), but not wrapped yet. I'm afraid of taking all that time to do it just to have little hands "investigate" it and have to re-do everything. Our Christmas tree is up, our lights are lit, the stockings are hung and we are now working on the advent calendar with little David. Next on my To Do list are Christmas cards and holiday family pictures.
My tea kettle is whistling and that means only one thing....hot chocolate! Bye bye, friends. Happy December!
