Who needs sleep?!

Apparently, my boys think sleep is lame. They would not go to sleep last night for anything. No matter how hard I tried they laid in their beds laughing and playing with each other across the room. I finally gave up and figured they'd pass out when they were tired. It was much less stressful for me and it sounded from the living room like they got some good bonding time. :)

Finally at 10:15pm (2 hours past bedtime) they got quiet. I waited a few minutes to make sure they were out then I snuck in to check on them. They were out hard. Finally! Isn't he sweet when he sleeps? *sigh*

Does that shadow look like a dinosaur head  or is it just me?


Then do you know what they did to me?!? They woke up early. Early. Can you believe it? After all that trouble going to bed last night and they got me up early. I've been awake with David since 4:30am and Max since 5:30. Somebody didn't get the memo that Mama likes sleep.

Yay for Disney channel's early morning programming!!!



New Words

Max is learning new words just about every day. I've lost count now of how many words he can say because he pretty much repeats anything back to us now. Today was still a sort of exciting day though because he said his first ever three syllable word - basketball. His daddy is so proud! And not only did he say it, but it was unprompted and spontaneous. He pointed at a ball here in the house and correctly identified it. Clear as day. Just like that. It blows my mind how quickly kids learn! 

24 hours

Oh, what a difference 24 hours can make! Just yesterday Max was happy and healthy. Now this morning - just 24 hours later - we're working with a low fever and runny nose. Yuck. He looks super tired and yucky feeling. He's trying his very best to be happy and keep playing, but the poor guy just looks a little off today. Maybe a long nap this afternoon would help...

At first Mr. Camera didn't get the memo that we were taking clear pictures so I got a bunch of these. Nice silhouette though right? Just tryin' to find the positives. :)

20 weeks, 4 days.

 Once I got him straightened out I had messed up the angle of the picture so my shoulder looks all scrunched and silly. When you're working with a tissue box and a roll of toilet paper as a tripod and you've got the camera's self timer on for the first time ever you're not expecting perfection right?

The Hershey's Syrup Incident

I had the boys freshly bathed, toenails clipped, ears cleaned and teeth brushed. We were so close to bedtime. ....And then I had to pee. It's pretty selfish of me really. Taking a whole 30 seconds to myself is just asking too much. I heard some banging and clanging while I was locked in the bathroom speed-peeing. I bravely made my way to the kitchen hoping for the best, expecting the worst. I found this.....

Earlier in the day I had dropped a bottle of Hershey's syrup off the top of the fridge (where it was safely being kept out of kid reach). The top broke off and the bottle was all messy. I was busy getting ready for some company to come over so I set it on the counter top by the coffeemaker so I could deal with it later. The boys had been eyeing it all day. Apparently, the temptation became too overwhelming and my little climbers worked out a plan.

Max opened the oven - his new favorite naughty thing to do - and used it as a step ladder to get to the counter top. From there it was a race to chug-a-lug as much as they could before I got back to the kitchen. It appeared that Max was the main culprit having been the messiest and eaten the most.

Not only did I not want to clean the sticky, messy, mess but I was just positive I'd be up all night with a puking boy. Max is very sensitive to sugary foods. As a baby, he'd get a horrible diaper rash when I'd eat lots of sugar then nurse him. As an older infant he'd get cranky and have belly aches. He spent the whole night after his 1st birthday awake and puking after eating 3/4 of a cupcake. I put him to bed and said a prayer, but secretly kissed my sleep goodbye. Luckily, we both slept alllll night last night. No one was sick, no one had a belly ache. Hallelujah!

David's 3rd Birthday - in pictures

He started the day by getting to pick his own breakfast - Special K with blueberries on top. Yes, that's what I make him eat most every day, but today it was special because HE got to pick it out of the cupboard.

 He gave me big birthday smiles...

 But he didn't want Max left out so Max got pictures so he'd feel special too...

 And for a very special day like a birthday they got to pull the coffee table over to the couch and jump back and forth between the two...

 When Daddy got home from work we all packed up and took a trip to the library...

 Then Daddy treated us to lunch at Culvers...

 And we took our very first trip to People's Food Co-op (what a weird little store)....

 Absolutely nothing looked tasty or even edible in there so we went next door to MacKenzies's for a cookie. Naturally on his birthday he picked one that said "Dad"...

 Then he ate it into the shape of a sailboat...

 We ate dinner in the food court at the mall. David got to pick between McDonald's or pizza. He chose nuggets and fries..

 Clearly, when you are 3 you are big enough to cut your own nuggets...

 We bought David's gift at the mall while we were there. TOOLS! Opening them to start working was the only thing on his mind when we got home...

 He loves them. A lot...

 He got a tool box, pliers, phillips head screwdriver, flat head screwdriver, measuring tape, 6 oz rubber head hammer and a mini Mag flashlight (all Craftsman so they will last his lifetime).



Thought of the day...

"I wish I was a textbook...maybe then I'd get to spend some time with my hubby."

April 2012 can't come soon enough. 

Oops!

Max popped out a new phrase today. He now says "Oh shoot!" when he drops stuff. Guess what Mama says all the time? :/

Bacon for breakfast

David: "Hey mom, take a picture of me eating my bacon for breakfast."

Me: "Ok"

David: "Are you gonna blog that?"

Me: "I am now."

Chatterbox

Max is somewhat of a chatterbox now. It's a little weird to me since David never really said more than 8-10 words until he was more than a year and a half and was barely putting 2-3 word sentences together at 2yrs. He's too little for real words, right??

IT'S A BOY!!!!!

 

 

 

Sorry to everyone (and I mean everyone) out there that thought this was a girl or had hoped for a girl. This time I win. I got the 3rd boy that I was wanting. Yay!! Dave is a little upset because he had really had his hopes up for a girl, but he is very relieved to hear that Baby is looking good and the doctors have no concerns.

 

Baby looks very healthy and active. So active actually that the ultrasound tech had a hard time getting all the measurments she needed. It was probably the longest ultrasound I have ever had. She couldn't get that baby to hold still for anything! He has a super strong and stable heartbeat, the fluid levels look good and baby is measuring right on for my November 8th due date. We really can't ask for more. :) 

I am also doing very well. I am 19 weeks today and I've gained 6 pounds so far. My blood pressure and such look very good. Right now nothing about this pregnancy is concerning to my doctors. They are really pleased with how "boring" and textbook it is. :) I am having some round ligament pain, backaches and, from time to time, some cramping. The doctor said that's due to this being a repeat pregnancy. With 3+ pregnancies you tend to carry pretty low. The weight of my uterus is pulling on my muscles and ligaments and causing some aches and pains. She suggested a maternity support belt for later on when my belly is bigger, but for right now there is not much I can do.

First night of VBS

First night of VBS is done. Phew! We had 126 kids join us tonight - and some of the preregistered kids weren't even there! This is going to be a good (but exhausting) week.

Booked Solid

What is it about June that makes the schedule go crazy?!? This happens to us every year. Only 8 days into the month and we are already booked solid until the middle of July. We've got Vaction Bible School at church, summer semester finals, David's birthday, open houses, a brand new nephew, OB appointments and ultrasounds and we're having a yard sale too. June will fly by in a blur and then we'll be looking at July 4th weekend, a bachelor party and one of our very best friend's wedding. I'm tired just thinking about it.

Scrambled Egg Muffins

These are a new favorite breakfast around here. I originally found the recipe in Double Delicious and we just love them!

Scrambled Egg Muffns

• 4 slices turkey bacon (I used regular bacon - yum!)
• 3 large egg whites
• 1 large egg
• 1/2 cup chopped low sodium chickpeas, rinsed and drained.
• 1/4 cup skim milk
• 4 teaspoons grated parmesan cheese

Preheat oven to 400 degrees. Coat an 8" square piece of aluminum foil with cooking spray and lay the bacon on the foil. Transfer to oven and bake for 10 -15 minutes. In a small bowl, whisk the egg whites, egg, chickpeas and milk. In a 6 cup muffin tin, coat 4 of the cups with cooking spray (I used a 12 cup tin so I had more than 4). Remove the bacon from the oven and snip with scissors or thinly slice. Sprinkle the bacon over the eggs and top with each with 1 teaspoon of parmesan. Bake for 12 - 15 minutes or until cooked through.

...And anyone else who cares to look at month old vacation pictures. I got really sidetracked with the move right after we got back, then I didn't have internet service, then Blogger was having issues. I can finally upload pictures again, but for some reason it absolutely will not upload pictures that have been rotated on my computer. I had to pick through and find the ones that were taken horizontally. So finally here they are. Enjoy.

The boys started the trip all bundled in blankets and jammies and sorta sleepy (cuz we were on the road at 5:30am).

And it was cold and rainy - sometimes snowy - all the way there. Not the most fun, but at least we were trapped in the car and it didn't ruin our sightseeing plans.

 David went mini golfing for the very first time on our trip and he wanted to pose by the zebras for a picture:

 Thanks to their well timed naps we got a very quiet and peaceful drive through the game preserve. See this crazy road? It runs through the river. You actually have to drive through flowing water to get to the animals:

 But the scary drive through the river was worth it because of this guy. This is not a zoomed in picture. He really was that close:
