Today is the day. The day that changes what the next 2 years of our family's life will look like. David's college classes are now in session. We knew it would be coming, but we still can't believe it's here. To be honest, it's bittersweet. We are happy - make that thrilled - that we're back on the road to a degree and better job, but it's not going to be pleasant along the way. David will be busy with approximately 25-30 hours of course work per week along with working his usual 40 hours (3rd shift). He's taking 1 in-seat class on Wednesday evenings that lasts 15 weeks and 2 accelerated online classes that last 7 weeks a piece with a one week break in between. For a wife and kids that are used to being with him nearly 10 hours a day, it's just about heartbreaking. We are going to miss him.
Taking 9 credit hours, having a wife and working full time is hard enough, but this time around he's got 2 noisy babies thrown in the mix too. This house is rarely calm and quiet. We like to play, make noise and have fun and that's good, but it's not exactly prime study conditions. We have a very small place to work with so there's really not a lot of options, but we've managed to set up a study space at the end of our bed in our room. It was crowded as it was, but we needed to make a little place for him to get away. He's got a desk, laptop, folding chair, small file box and a shelf (under the desk) for his books. There's really not much of a walkway anymore, but it does the job. :)
We just keep telling ourselves that this will only last for a season. We are working towards something awesome. We can't get a house until we get a better paying job. We can't get a better paying job until he has a degree. We can't get a degree without finishing his last 40 or so credit hours. He'll be going to school year round with nearly no break until spring 2012, but WE CAN DO THIS!
