Max gave me a complete rundown on how to defeat different colored monsters this afternoon. Given his record of never losing a monster battle, I'd say he's quite an expert and it's worth a listen.
White monsters are easy peasy. You just bam them.
Blues you have to punch in the face. Really hard.
Purple has to be knifed.
If its orange, you have to get another good guy to fight with you because they are very strong and fast.
With yellows, you have to pull your leg all the way back and then kick them in the foots.
If you ever see a spotted-dotted one, you have to run and get your dad. Those are so tricky and serious.
