It's been a good year, but you know what "They" say...all good things must come to an end. I for one, will be celebrating. Perhaps not in the most outrageous of ways, but it's bound to be good times. I believe the invite actually said "bring your own Pack and Play and highchair". That's a rager of a party right there. You know it's giong to get wild and crazy when you are bringing your one year old. But hey, what did you expect from me? I'm a party animal! All the one and a half year olds like me.
If there is anything I've learned in my partying days it's that to be a true party animal you must follow the party animal rules. Number 1: Stay out much later than you should. Abandon everything you know about those so called "bedtimes". For me that means I forego my typical bedtime of 10pm-ish and stay up all evening - until midnight!!! I mean, you gotta admit it's a little crazy when you see tomorrow before you go to bed tonight. But that's how I roll. Number 2: Surround yourself with other party animals. This New Year's Eve I'm really going crazy. I'm hanging with my pint-sized posse. They may be only one and a half, but they can get wild. You turn up the stereo a bit and watch them go nuts! They can really bust out the moves! I must admit they put me to shame every time. And finally rule number 3: Do things against your better judgement. I think this means I'll be having 2 - count 'em two - glasses of sparkling juice instead of just one. Ususally I try to avoid liquids for at least 30 minutes before bedtime to ensure that I'm not up every hour peeing, but hey, that's the sacrifice of being a party animal. You gotta throw caution to the wind and just do it. There's really no time to worry about your pregnant bladder exploding.
I hope you all had a fabulous 2009 and here's wishing you the best in 2010! Have a safe and happy new year. :)

Blame it on the boots
David got new boots for Christmas from Mommy and Daddy. He doesn't want to take them off for anything. Every single morning he gets up and insists that they got on over his jammie feet. The rest of the day consists of him running around in circles yelling "Boots!". He has been crashing hard in the very few moments that he's still. Too bad it was lunch time! David and I were sitting there talking when I looked over and saw him nod off. I was laughing so hard I had to leave the room so I didn't wake him up before we got pictures.

Since when is Christmas a week long?
We had such a fabulous Christmas. Our celebrations and relaxation covered much more than just one day. It was more like a full week. David sprained his ankle the Saturday before Christmas and wasn't able to walk for a few days so he took Monday the 21st - Christmas off of work to recover. I know it wasn't the best of circumstances, but it was beyond fabulous to have him home with David and I. We got some really good family time in. We woke up every morning and had breakfast and watched cartoons together. Then we worked on Christmas prep plans, took a nap and ate. Pretty much the best week ever.
Christmas Eve was spent making a gingerbread house, eating pizza for lunch so I didn't have to cook, wrapping presents, more napping and then off to my Mom and Dad's for our traditional snack foods and movie "loungy" type night. We made it home just in time for bedtime and fell into the most peaceful sleep ever. You know, with the sugar plum fairies dancing, Prancer prancing and jingle bells jingling. The whole nine yards. Very restful.
Christmas morning kept with the laid back theme of the rest of the week. We all slept in until 7:30 (WOW!!!) and then David opened his presents from Mommy and Daddy. We got him a toy shopping cart and a huge tub of plastic foods. It was a very big hit and he played with nothing but that for the rest of the morning. By the time we left for lunch at Grandma's house, we had every last one of those 90 pieces of food on the floor. The house was quite the mess, but in my Christmas cheer I just didn't care. We walked out without a second thought and left it all right there. There are more important things on Christmas than messes! :)
Our first stop of the day was my parents house again. This time the festivities included both my brothers and their families. It was a packed full house that often erupted in moments of chaos, but that's how we like it. It's what the holidays are all about, right? It was so good to have the whole fam together again. I saw my oldest bro and his wife and daughter at Thanksgiving, but the other one was stuck in Illinois where he lives. He's a doctor and doesn't often get away from the hospital. We are so proud of everything he does, but it's still hard not to have him and his family there around the holidays. After a huge ham dinner, picture taking and present opening we left to celebrate with David's parents. Again, this gathering was centered around food, pictures and presents...not that I'm complaining! :) Little David was so tired by this point that when I sat him on the couch to take his boots and coat off, he slumped over and fell asleep. Yeah, that's a tired boy right there. He slept in the middle of the living room with his coat on for almost 45 minutes. It was dinnertime and much too late for a nap, but the little guy was so tuckered out that I didn't have the heart to wake him at first. I thought the noise of the house and crying cousins would have woken him, but he slept through. Finally at 5:30pm I tried to wake him. He was awake for gift opening then, but just barely. Poor kid. :(
David made out like a bandit this year. He got a brand new snowsuit, shopping cart and plastic food, an interactive/talking/chug along Thomas the Train, a vTech learning toy, a set of alphabet blocks, a handmade blanket from Grandma (with a tiny matching one for Dog), a teddy bear, 2 DVDs, a tool set, 3 pairs of jammies, a book and a new matching hat and mitten set. With all that stuff for just one little boy you'd think he'd be set right? Yes and no. He was still missing a pair of winter boots. We took off on Saturday in search of a good after-Christmas deal. We found it. Target had the perfect pair for him. They look like moon boots! How cool is that?! NOW he's set. I can't think of a thing that he could possibly need now.
Last night David and I had the chance to double date with some friends of ours to a Jim Brickman holiday concert. It was fantastic! We left David with Aunt Ashley for the day and had a blast without him. I have to admit I did call to check in a few times, but it was a very long day so I had to! The only time I really got to missing him though was at dinner time. We sat down in the restaurant and I just didn't know what to do with myself. I am a little too used to the crayons and coloring pages they bring for "David". Without something to entertain me, I was quite lost. I actually had to have a conversation - with adults!! As a stay at home mom, my conversation skills with people over the age of 2 are a smidge rusty. If it didn't happen on Sesame Street then I don't know about it. Makes it hard. I like to think that I coped well though. :)
Today I am...well I'm just plain happy. No, make that extra special happy. The deep down, extra patient with my kiddo, doesn't matter that David is coming home late from work kind of happy. I started my day with a hot cup of tea, pancakes, eggs and bacon. Now I'm sitting here blogging and watching it snow. It is beautiful outside (and I can say that because I'm inside!). Today is going to be a good day. :)

Christmas Eve
It's Christmas Eve and there's a bunch to do! I have to wrap presents, prepare some finger foods for the annual Christmas Eve "Movie and Munchies" night at my mom and dad's house, I need to get a head start on cooking the dish I'm taking for tomorrow's big dinner with the family and there is a gingerbread house sitting in my pantry that needs to be built! It's going to be a good day. :)
I know I've said it before, but I'll say it again. I love this time of year. It's so fun!! I hope you all are enjoying it as much as I am. Have a great time tonight and tomorrow and remember He is the reason for this wonderful season.

Learning on his own
As a mom, I can talk all the live long day about what David isn't allowed to do. "Don't touch that", "Don't go over there", "Don't put that in your mouth", "Get your hand out of the toilet". Sometimes it seems that he's just not going to listen no matter what. That's when you have to step back and (if it's not dangerous or harmful) let him learn on his own.
Case in point, the dining room table. He is not allowed to climb on or touch anything that is on the dining room table. If anything is there it's a fruit bowl or paperwork we're trying to keep out of his reach or some thing like that. Nothing he's ever allowed to play with. We spend all day steering him away from the table and reiterating the fact that he's not allowed to touch it. Nothing we say seems to get through to him. I am pretty sure he thinks we are kidding. We're not.
Last night I was cleaning up supper dishes and leftovers while he was running around playing. I took a stack of stuff to the kitchen and started rinsing off the dishes when I heard a huge splash, a series of gasps then crying. Yep, he found it. I hadn't cleared our cups off the table yet and he was all over them. He pulled my full-to-the-brim, 24 oz. cup of ice cold water down on his head. I turned to see what had happened and then calmly went back to my last 2 dishes and laughed to myself. After I finished what I was doing, I found a rag and cleaned the table and chair to stop the drips. No sense letting the mess on the floor get any worse. Then - and only then - did I take the cold, soaking wet clothes off my screaming child. Maybe sitting in them an extra second or 2 will get the point across.
After he calmed down a bit and we talked about how it's not nice to touch the table when mommy says no, I gave him a rag and made him clean up the floor. No, of course, he didn't do a good job. He didn't even come close to touching the mess he made, but for every second that I was down there cleaning he was too. It serves him right. He did something he wasn't supposed to do and it resulted in a mess. Someone has to clean it up. In life, Mommy is not always going to be there to clean up after your mistakes. You gotta learn early how to handle it for yourself.
Perhaps next time he'll listen when I tell him not to touch.

Finished!
I am finally finished updating everything I missed early this month. Make sure you read all the posts from December so you don't miss anything!
A good report
I went to another prenatal appt this morning. I met one of the midwives from the office that I had never seen before. She was awesome! I loved her and I truly hope and pray that she is on call when I go into labor! Now if only this baby will cooperate....
Everything looked fabulously normal with me and the baby today. Nothing out of the ordinary and nothing to be concerned about. It was a pretty boring appt, but those are the best kind! I'd rather have it that way then come home worried about all sorts of things that are going wrong. I took a glucose test 3 weeks ago that came back negative for diabetes. Praise the Lord! That's good news. I am measuring right on with my due date and my weight is still good too. I am 31 weeks and have gained 14 pounds. The goal is 25-35 overall so I'm still at a very good place. Like I said, kind of a boring trip to the doc. :)
We talked some about the method of pain control that I want to use for delivery. She was very supportive of my choice to go for an all natural, unmedicated birth. That eases my mind a lot. It helps to know that I have my doctor/midwife's support. She encouraged me a lot and said that considering David's delivery and birth story she thinks I can do it. I love kind words and encouragement!!
